Inspired by Nature
Nature has always had a great influence on Nathan Johansen. He sees a beauty in things that most people overlook. Things like old dry leaves or seed pods. He notices the beautiful forms that bark makes as it sloughs off of a tree. The pieces found in this section capture the beauty of these natural objects.
"Flowers, in all their showy, colorful profusion are noticeable and dominant in defining the "beauty" of a plant. Yet, these ephemeral blossoms are transient and fade quickly, to be replaced by that for which the plant exists - the seeds.
The fruit and seeds, though more simple in color and shape are beautiful and long lasting, preserving the next generation. Nestled in a seed-pod's hard protective exterior is the hope for tomorrow, waiting for just the right conditions for the pod to burst open so that they may emerge, seeding the future." -Nathan Johansen

Knap Series
When wax is broken, or pieces of it knapped off, it creates wonderful shapes, angles and lines. Sometimes these geometric shapes have an organic feel to them. Nathan Johansen has been intrigued by these beautiful forms that have been the inspiration for a whole series he calls the Knap Series.
